Huy Phung has been teaching Vietnamese in the US since 2020, offering both online and in-person instruction to heritage and non-heritage learners at all proficiency levels. He has significantly contributed to Vietnamese language programs at University of Hawai'i at Mānoa and University of California San Diego via his innovative and evidence-based approach to language instruction, course design and program administration. Inspired by key research in language acquisition, he led the development of a task-based open textbook for intermediate learners. This contribution exemplifies his commitment to student-centered, active learning, OER-enabled pedagogy and the materials have been used by instructors and students at numerous universities across the US and abroad. Huy Phung currently serves as a board member of the Group of Universities for Advancement of Vietnamese in America (GUAVA).
